Are jobs available with people with both these strengths and a commitment to careers in community organizing and leadership?

Yes, certainly, especially in rapidly growing nonprofits and government agencies.

Organizers Develop Cross-Sector Skills Which Are in Demand

"Education and experience in community organizing and leadership provide people with greater access to an incredible variety of jobs and long-term careers.  This section provides detailed information on those opportunities, starting with a Job Description for a Community Organizer and charts listing:

  • the skills which change agents develop and
  • the cross-sector skills the private sector looks for (which are also valued by public agencies and the rapidly growing nonprofit sector).

These are followed by material on the Labor Market including a graphic showing the 6 types of employers which need staff with the interpersonal, team-building and other skills CCS students develop.  The pdf on Job Titles includes 9 pages of job listings for people with these strengths, starting with entry-level positions and increasing with experience, a growing track record, recommendations and credentials."

A Degree or Certificate in Community Organizing demonstrates that a person has developed cross-sector skills, helping prepare them for a wide variety of careers and leadership roles.  Note in the chart  below how business looks for a very similar skill-set.
